Pro-Hardwearing Blend Seed

Available in sizes 1kg, 2kg, 5kg (25kg available via special order)

SEED BLEND & PACKAGE DETAILS

  • 60% Avenger Tall Fescue
  • 32% Grandslam 2 Ryegrass
  • 5% Kentuckey Bluegrass
  • 3% USA Fancey - Unhulled Couch

APPEARANCE

A premium cool-to-warm season turf blend designed for tough conditions and year-round resilience.

Pro-Hardwearing produces a dense, medium-textured green lawn with a fine-to-coarse mix. The quick-germinating ryegrass gives early colour and erosion protection, while the fescue offers deep root strength and drought resistance. Over time, Couch and Bluegrass develop into a self-repairing, summer-active base layer — resulting in a lawn that evolves with the seasons.

USES

This blend is ideal for areas where durability is important, and the lawn is exposed to sun and foot traffic.

Suitable for:

·        Family homes and backyards

·        High-use garden and turf areas

·        Commercial spaces and schools

·        Transitional climates needing year-round performance

SEEDING & PREPARATION

·        Seed into a weed-free, finely textured top layer.

·        Lightly rake seed into the surface and firm with light rolling or watering.

·        Ensure consistent moisture during the first 3–4 weeks for full germination.

GERMINATION TIMEFRAMES

·        Perennial Ryegrass: 5–10 days

·        Tall Fescue: 7–14 days

·        Kentucky Bluegrass: 14–21 days

·        Unhulled Couch Grass: 21–28+ days (temperature-dependent)

Tip: The ryegrass and fescue provide fast ground cover, suppressing weeds and helping protect the slower-establishing Couch grass as it develops beneath.

SEEDING RATES

·        New Lawns: 3.5–4.5 kg per 100 m²

·        Oversowing: 2.5–4 kg per 100 m²

PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS

·        Fast coverage from rye and fescue

·        Seasonal adaptation – cool-season top growth, warm-season base

·        Self-repairing summer recovery from Couch grass

·        Resilience to wear and drought once established

·        Maintains colour in a wide range of temperatures

UNDERSTANDING THE COUCH GRASS COMPONENT (3%)

While Couch grass makes up only a small part of the seed mix by weight, it is a vigorous warm-season grower that spreads via stolons and rhizomes. Once summer temperatures rise, it begins to establish and gradually takes a more dominant role, especially in sunny areas.

The inclusion of Ryegrass and Fescue early on not only provides instant greening and protection from erosion — it also shields and shelters the Couch as it develops. This allows for a natural transition toward a more drought-hardy base over time.

This clever balance ensures customers get both quick results and long-term durability.

MOWING

Maintain between 25–40 mm depending on traffic and season. Occasional scalping in spring can help rejuvenate warm-season growth (Couch) without harming deeper-rooted species.

EXPERT TIP:

The lower Couch percentage is intentional — too much Couch early on would delay coverage and may dominate before the cool-season grasses can establish. Instead, this blend is designed to adapt with the seasons and the site conditions, giving the best of both turf types.

“Quick green now, tough green later.”
“The rye and fescue are the lawn’s scaffolding — they hold the space until Couch takes over where it thrives.”
