SEED BLEND & PACKAGE DETAILS
- 50% Avenger Tall Fescue
- 35% Grandslam 2 Ryegrass
- 10% Creeping Red Fine Fescue
- 5% Whittet Kikuyu
APPEARANCE
A durable, fine-textured, cool-to-warm season turf blend designed for parks, schools, and public-use areas.
Pro-Parks establishes as a lush, fine-to-medium textured lawn with vibrant green colour and a soft, uniform finish. The combination of fescues and rye provides a dense, upright appearance early on, while Kikuyu gradually introduces spreading summer growth that improves wear tolerance.
USES
This blend is purpose-built for:
-
- Public green spaces (councils, ovals, median strips)
- School grounds and community areas
- Landscaped commercial or municipal areas
- Moderate- to high-traffic turf requiring all-season resilience
SEEDING & PREPARATION
-
- Seed into a well-prepared, weed-free seedbed.
- Lightly rake and firm the surface to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
- Maintain consistent moisture during establishment.
GERMINATION TIMEFRAMES
-
- Perennial Ryegrass: 5–10 days
- Tall Fescue: 7–14 days
- Creeping Red Fescue: 10–14 days
- Whittet Kikuyu (unhulled): 21–35+ days (temperature-dependent)
Tip: Early establishment is carried by the rye and fescue varieties, providing quick green cover. Kikuyu slowly establishes underneath and begins to spread as summer warmth increases.
SEEDING RATES
-
- New Lawns: 3.5–5 kg per 100 m²
- Oversowing: 2.5–4 kg per 100 m²
PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS
-
- Fine textured finish with excellent colour
- High wear tolerance once Kikuyu is active
- Year-round coverage with seasonal balance
- Red Fescue adds shade and cold performance
- Kikuyu delivers long-term drought and summer repair
UNDERSTANDING THE KIKUYU COMPONENT (5%)
Although it makes up a small part of the blend by weight, Whittet Kikuyu is an aggressive, warm-season grass that spreads rapidly once temperatures rise. In full sun areas, it will eventually become a dominant summer performer, offering unmatched resilience, wear recovery and drought tolerance.
Until Kikuyu is established, the cool-season fescues and ryegrass provide full green coverage, keeping the lawn usable and attractive through autumn, winter, and spring. This blend is perfect for councils and facility managers who want quick establishment and long-term self-maintaining turf.
MOWING
Maintain between 30–45mm depending on usage and seasonal growth. Spring scalping or thinning may be done to assist Kikuyu activation as the weather warms.
EXPERT TIP
Kikuyu is slow to germinate but fast to take over once established — especially in sun-exposed areas. It’s ideal for long-term savings on irrigation and repairs in high-use public lawns. Meanwhile, Red Fescue provides insurance in shaded or cool zones where Kikuyu might struggle.
“Fast green now, bulletproof turf later.”
“This blend does the heavy lifting in year one, and the Kikuyu takes over in year two.”
Please note: Seed cannot be sent to Western Australia, Tasmania, or Northern Territory due to Quarantine restrictions.
