SEED & PACKAGE DETAILS

100% Turf Type Perennial Ryegrass

APPEARANCE

Perennial Ryegrass delivers a clean, fine-textured lawn with a deep green colour and a uniform growth habit. It has
an upright, bunch-type form (non-spreading) that creates a strong surface quickly after germination.

USES

Best suited to lawns needing quick results and excellent wear performance:
• Backyards with kids or pets
• Sports turf and high-use areas
• Seasonal oversowing for winter colour
• Blends with couch, fescue or bluegrass for year-round resilience

SEEDING & PREPARATION

• Seed into a well-prepared, weed-free soil
• Excellent seed-to-soil contact is key — lightly rake in and roll
• Maintain consistent moisture until germination completes

MOWING

• Maintain at 25–50 mm depending on use and season.
• Can tolerate lower mowing heights with regular maintenance, making it suitable for ornamental or
manicured lawns.
• Avoid removing more than 1/3 of the leaf blade at any one time to reduce stress and maintain density.
Tip: Regular mowing encourages lateral tillering and helps Kentucky Bluegrass form a tighter sward over time.

SEEDING RATES

• New Lawn: 3–4 kg per 100 m²
• Oversowing: 1.5–2.5 kg per 100 m²

GERMINATION TIMEFRAME

• 5–14 days in ideal temperatures (10–25°C)
• Germinates faster than most cool-season species
Tip: Ryegrass germinates fast and can provide cover quickly, making it ideal for patch repairs, bare spots, or
establishing new lawns in early autumn or spring. It does however require decent contact with the soil for
effective germination so raking through is recommended.

PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS

• Very fast establishment – ideal for repairs and erosion control
• High wear resistance once established
• Excellent cool-season colour
• Good mowing tolerance down to 20–30 mm
• Combines well in multi-species blends

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

• Does not spread (bunch-type growth) — thin spots won't self-repair
• Can struggle in prolonged heat without irrigation
• Not suitable for dense shade or dryland lawns long-term
• Unlike Annual ryegrass, Perennial ryegrass won’t die off naturally, it will require spraying out if
it is no longer wanted.

EXPERT TIP:

Ryegrass is your "fast response" lawn species — ideal when time is short or the lawn needs to look good
quickly. Pair it with couch, fescue or bluegrass in blends to give fast cover now and deeper durability later.

Please note: Seed cannot be sent to Western Australia, Tasmania, or Northern Territory due to Quarantine restrictions.
