APPEARANCE

A cool-season turf mix designed for versatility across full sun to moderate shade.

Sun & Shade Blend produces a fine-textured, dark green lawn with a dense, upright growth habit. It establishes 
quickly and adapts well across varied light conditions - offering good performance in both open and partially 
shaded areas.

USES

Perfect for mixed-light lawns where some areas receive full sun and others partial shade:
• Residential lawns with patchy tree or building shade
• Front and backyards with varying exposure
• Turf that transitions from open to filtered light
• Sites where full-sun grasses alone won’t succeed

SEEDING & PREPARATION

• Sow into a well-prepared, lightly worked surface
• Ensure the seed has solid soil contact; roll or press after raking
• Keep consistently moist during germination (3–4 weeks)

MOWING

Maintain at 30–50 mm for best performance in varied light conditions.
• In shaded areas, mow on the higher end of the range to maximise leaf surface for photosynthesis.
• Always follow the 1/3 rule — never remove more than one-third of the leaf blade in a single mow.
Tip: Taller mowing heights in shaded zones reduce stress and help maintain density where light is limited.

SEEDING RATES

• New Lawn: 3.5–4.5 kg per 100 m²
• Oversowing: 1.5–2.5 kg per 100 m²

GERMINATION TIMEFRAME

• Perennial Ryegrass: 5–10 days
• Hard Fescue: 7–14 days
• Fine Fescue (Creeping Red): 10–14 days
• Kentucky Bluegrass: 14–21 days

Tip: Rye and fescue give fast cover, while bluegrass contributes longevity and self-thickening in sunnier areas

IMPORTANT NOTE ON SHADE TOLERANCE

This blend is ideal for partial or dappled shade (e.g., 4+ hours of filtered sun), but it does not include groundcovers 
like Dichondra, so it may thin out in deep shade or under full tree canopy.
For heavily shaded areas (less than 3 hours of sun/day), consider a shady-specific blend with Dichondra Repens 
or incorporate it separately to support coverage.

EXPERT TIP:

Sun & Shade Blend is great for transitional lawns — where some spots get morning sun and others get shade later
in the day. It’s versatile, but not invincible — if you’ve got thick tree cover, you’ll need to go beyond grass alone
