APPEARANCE

A specialised low-light turf solution combining shade-tolerant grasses and groundcover for hard to-grow areas.

Pro-Shady creates a fine-textured, rich green lawn with a soft, carpet-like finish. The mix of Red Fescue, Ryegrass, and Kentucky Bluegrass ensures good shade performance, while Dichondra Repens adds lush groundcover appeal and further fills gaps in very low-light zones.

SEEDING & PREPARATION

·                 Prepare a fine, well-weeded surface with good organic matter &                        moisture-retentive soil.

·                 Spread evenly and lightly rake to ensure good contact.

·                 Shade areas often dry out more slowly- monitor soil moisture carefully.

GERMINATION TIMEFRAMES

·                 Creeping Red Fescue: 10–14 days

·                 Perennial Ryegrass: 5–10 days

·                 Kentucky Bluegrass: 14–21 days

·                 Dichondra Repens: 7–21 days (depending on warmth and light)

Tip: The turfgrass species will form the backbone of the lawn, while Dichondra helps cover bare patches and thrives in deeper shade where even the grasses may thin out.

UNDERSTANDING THE DICHONDRA COMPONENT (8%)

Dichondra is a low-growing, broadleaf groundcover that performs extremely well in low light areas. While only 8% of the mix, it spreads gently via stolons and nodes, it establishes in the very spots where most grasses struggle — e.g., under thick tree cover, near walls, or in footpath nooks.

It contributes softness and colour while integrating naturally with the finer fescue and bluegrass.

MOWING

Maintain at 35–50 mm. In deeply shaded areas, mow less frequently or selectively to preserve Dichondra coverage. Avoid mowing too short, as shade grasses rely on leaf surface for photosynthesis.
